Pixel Pearls Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 29, 2026

Pixel Pearls (“Pixel Pearls”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) is a family routine product operated by SecondSurfer LLC. We designed Pixel Pearls around one core principle:

A child's routine is not a reason to build a profile of that child. We aim to collect only what the Family routine needs.

This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you:

  • Use the Pixel Pearls mobile app (the “App”)
  • Visit pixelpearlsapp.com (the “Website”)
  • Receive service emails related to your Family account, subscription, or security

1. What We Do (Quick Summary)

  • A Family account is created and owned by an adult Caregiver, who signs in with an email address and a one-time passcode.
  • Child profiles are created by the Caregiver. A child profile holds a display name, an age range, Quest progress, and a Pearl balance. We do not ask for a child's exact age, birth date, email address, or contact details.
  • We store the Quests, Steps, Rewards, and progress the Family creates so the routine works across the Caregiver's and child's devices.
  • We collect limited product analytics and crash reporting to keep the App working. We do not sell personal data, and we do not show third-party advertising.
  • The Website is a static marketing site. It does not create accounts and does not collect Quest or child data. Our hosting provider processes basic connection data (such as IP addresses and request logs) to serve the site; we run no tracking scripts on the Website.

2. Information We Collect

From Caregivers

  • Account identifiers: email address, and authentication records needed to sign you in with a one-time passcode.
  • Family and child profile data you enter: child display names, chosen age range, and device pairing records.
  • Routine content you create: Quest titles, Steps, Pearl values, schedules, Reward names, Reward Details, and Pearl costs.
  • Subscription status: if a subscription is active, whether your Family has an active entitlement. Purchase and payment are handled by Apple or Google; we do not receive or store your payment card details.
  • Support correspondence you send to us.

From the App on a child's device

  • Quest progress: which Steps were marked Done or skipped, submitted Quests awaiting review, and Pearl transactions.
  • Device pairing records: the association between a child profile and the paired device, so progress reaches the right child.
  • Camera permission on the child's device, used only to read a pairing code shown by the Caregiver. No photos are taken or stored. A short numeric PIN can be used instead.
  • Push notification tokens, used to deliver Quest, approval, and Reward updates.

Technical and diagnostic data

  • App version, platform, and a per-request correlation identifier used to diagnose failures.
  • Crash reports, handled by Firebase Crashlytics. We aim to strip personal data from them, but we cannot guarantee that every error message is free of personal information.
  • Limited product analytics about Caregiver setup and activation steps.

3. How We Use the Information

  • To provide the routine experience: showing the next Step, recording progress, awarding Pearls, and tracking Reward progress.
  • To connect a Caregiver's and a child's devices, and to keep them in sync.
  • To send notifications you have enabled, such as a submitted Quest awaiting review or a Reward awaiting hand-off.
  • To verify subscription entitlement and restore access after a reinstall or device change.
  • To keep the service secure, prevent abuse, and diagnose and fix defects.
  • To improve the product based on aggregate usage patterns.

4. What We Do Not Do

  • We do not sell personal data.
  • We do not show third-party advertising in the App.
  • We do not collect a child's exact age, birth date, email address, phone number, photo, or contact list.
  • We do not use the App to monitor a child's location, screen time, or activity outside Pixel Pearls.
  • We do not use Quest completion data to infer or label a diagnosis.
  • We do not collect payment card details. Purchases are processed by the app store.

5. Where Data Is Stored and Processed

Family data is stored on our servers and scoped to your Family account. Access is enforced on the server: a child device can only read and write the data for its own paired child profile, and Caregiver actions require an authenticated Caregiver session. Local Quest progress is also cached on the child's device so a routine can continue through a brief network interruption.

Some features use AI to help draft Quests and Rewards. When you use these features, the routine text you enter may be sent to a third-party AI provider (OpenRouter) and its model providers for processing. We pass a neutral child/family label rather than the child's display name, but we may include the chosen age range and the text you enter. We cannot guarantee that free-text content is stripped of names or other personal data. Our agreements with those providers prohibit them from using your inputs to train their models. Any AI-drafted content is a suggestion that you review and edit before assigning it to a child.

6. Legal Bases (for EU/EEA/UK users)

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on:

  • Contract — to provide the App and Family account you have asked for.
  • Legitimate interests — to secure the service, prevent abuse, and fix defects, balanced against your rights.
  • Consent — for optional notifications you choose to enable.
  • Legal obligation — where we must retain or disclose records by law.

7. Data Retention

We keep Family and routine data while the Family account is active. If a subscription expires, we preserve the Family's data and earned Pearls so access can be restored; we do not delete earned value as a penalty for lapsing. When a Family account is deleted, we delete or de-identify the Family and child data associated with it, and we keep records only where we must for legal, tax, security, or fraud-prevention purposes, or where a backup copy has not yet rotated out of our backup cycle.

8. Your Rights and Choices

Contact us to request access, correction, export, or deletion of your account data, to withdraw consent for optional notifications, to object to or restrict certain processing where the law provides that right, and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. A Caregiver can also delete a child profile or leave a family in the App.

A Caregiver can exercise these rights for the Family account and the child profiles it contains. Contact us using the details in section 13.

To delete your Family account, email us at privacy@pixelpearlsapp.com from the address associated with the account. We will confirm the request and act on it within the period required by applicable law.

9. Security

We use encryption in transit, scoped access tokens, server-side authorization checks, and rate limiting. Access to production systems is restricted to people who need it. No system is perfectly secure, but we design so that a failure in one area does not expose another Family's data. If we become aware of a breach affecting your information, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as required by applicable law.

10. Children's Privacy

Pixel Pearls is designed for families, with children using the App under the supervision of a Caregiver who creates the child profile and controls the Family account. The Caregiver enters basic profile details, such as a display name and an age range. As a child uses the App, the App also stores usage data tied to their profile, such as Quest progress and a Pearl balance. We do not ask a child to provide an email address, phone number, or other contact detail, and we do not market to children.

We collect a child's information only at the direction of the Caregiver, who creates the child profile and agrees to our Terms of Service on the Family's behalf. The Caregiver represents that they are the child's parent or legal guardian. The Caregiver can review the child's profile and progress in the App, correct it, and delete the child profile or the whole Family account at any time. We do not sell children's data, do not use it for advertising, and do not disclose it except to the service providers described in section 11, which process it only to run the App for your Family.

If you believe a child has provided personal information to us without Caregiver involvement, contact us and we will investigate and delete it if appropriate.

11. Third-Party Services and Links

We use independent service providers for hosting, crash reporting, AI assistance, and push notification delivery, and the app stores for subscription billing. These are separate companies with their own terms and privacy policies. We require the providers that process personal data on our behalf to protect it and to use it only to deliver the service we have asked them to provide. The Website may link to the App Store or Google Play; those services have their own privacy policies.

12. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this policy as the product changes. If a change materially affects how we handle Family or child data, we will notify Caregivers in the App or by email before it takes effect, and where the law requires it we will ask you to accept the updated policy. The “Last updated” date above shows the current version.
